The majority of professions
are represented by their own professional organisations.
However, for those who practise as Building Consultants,
there is a need for an organisation to represent the
consultancy profession and to network with other
organisations related to the building industry.
The International Institute
of Building Consultants was established to represent the
needs of those consulting to and for the building and
construction industries.
The Institute's prime role is
the education, training and ultimately grading of its
members on an international basis and to represent those
members in all facets of commerce.
The second important role is
the maintenance of a comprehensive database on technical
matters relating to construction. This information is in the
majority available free to subscribing members although
there is certain data produced by entities such as
International Standards, Governments and testing
laboratories for which payment is required upon request of
the data.
Centralising the technical
libraries of a number of different disciplines supplemented
by access to leading universities and colleges ensures that
member practitioners have available essential reference data
24 hours a day 365 days a year.
No longer is it necessary for
professionals preparing reports to delay the production of
that report while they ascertain where hard copy of the data
they require can be obtained.
Most professionals are
members of a number of different professional bodies all of
whom have difficulty in convening an annual conference. The
problems arise with the costs of transport, accommodation
and a loss of earning potential while the professional
attends not only one conference but several similar events
each year.
The International
Institute of Building Consultants conducts annual
conferences in a number of countries with a view to
accommodating the requirements of like bodies. Those
individual organisations are able to convene their own
“part of the conference” but the prospect of obtaining
the necessary information and networking is confined to one
event instead of numerous events and thus costs are
dramatically controlled.
Regular newsletters
documenting case precedents and technical research notes are
distributed to members electronically to assist with
continuing professional development.
The International
Institute of Building Consultants has its own
Charter and has direct links with a number of statutory
authorities and education bodies to assist in facilitating
its Charter.
Training courses, both
external and in house, are available to financial members
who are then graded according to their qualifications,
experience and professional standing within their business
communities.
The Institute establishes
from time to time, Divisions and Chapters in countries where
the profession of Building Consultancy is recognised.
As the world embraces
multiculturalism and globalisation of commerce, the International
Institute of Building Consultants - an institution
of Chartered Professionals, will ensure that practitioners
progress through the 21st Century in a professional and
viable manner.
